The Janez Trdina Mengeš mountaineering society was founded on March 13 1952. Because of the large number of active mountaineers from Mengeš, it was separated from the Kamnik mountaineering society. In the discussed sixty years timespan, the society gradually evolved and changed. Its program, events and number of members changed. Therefore, the final picture of the mountaineering society is the result of various processes evolving throughout the considered period. The society's operation is based on a division into individual sections, namely the youth, alpine, propaganda, economic, marking and guide sections. In sixty years the society was headed by seven male and one female president. The main purpose of the thesis is to describe the situation before and during the foundation of the society and its activities between 1952 and 2012. The work of individual sections and presidents is also described for a more comprehensive view. The development of Mengeška koča on Gobavica, which represents the main building owned by the mountaineering society, is outlined as well. The thesis is based upon an analysis of the society's archival material and literature.
